Expansion of NK cell-based
immunotherapy into pet healthcare… advancing a data-driven precision healthcare
model
NKCL Bio Group Co., Ltd. (CEO:
Donghwa Shin), a biotechnology company specializing in immune cell-based
technologies, has officially entered the companion animal immune healthcare
market.
The company announced that it
recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Dangnyangi &
People Co., Ltd., a pet life-care platform company, to jointly develop
immune-based healthcare technologies and products for companion animals.
Through this partnership, NKCL aims to expand the application of its NK
cell-based immunotherapy into the pet market.
Entry into ‘Pet Bio’ leveraging
NK cell cultivation and activation technologies
NKCL Bio Group has been advancing the development of anti-cancer and
immunotherapeutic solutions based on its proprietary NK cell mass cultivation
and activation control technologies.
Its core competencies include high-efficiency NK cell expansion, personalized
cell activation modulation, cytokine secretion control, and automated cell
culture systems.
Notably, its capability to produce tens of billions of NK cells within two
weeks, along with GMP-level manufacturing infrastructure, is recognized as a
scalable foundation for broader applications.
Building on these capabilities, NKCL plans to extend into bio-healthcare
solutions for companion animals, including cancer treatment, immune
enhancement, aging management, and chronic disease response.
Integration with AI platform
data… realization of precision healthcare
A key element of this collaboration lies in integrating NKCL’s biotechnology
with platform-based data.
Dangnyangi & People accumulates diverse pet-related data—such as health
status, behavioral patterns, and lifestyle information—through its AI-driven
pet healthcare platform.
Both companies intend to leverage this data to develop a precision pet
healthcare model encompassing individual immune profiling, customized
bio-material application, and preventive healthcare service design.
Preclinical validation supports
broader application potential
NKCL has previously demonstrated tumor suppression effects of NK cells across
multiple cancer types in preclinical studies.
The company has also validated the potential for regulating immune disorders
and inflammatory responses through multi-mechanistic actions, including ADCC
and cytokine modulation.
Industry experts anticipate that these technologies could expand into the pet
sector, addressing immune deficiencies, inflammatory diseases, age-related
conditions, and next-generation anti-cancer therapies.
“Transferring human
bio-technology to the pet market”
An NKCL representative stated, “This collaboration marks a significant
milestone in extending NK cell-based immunotherapy from human healthcare to
companion animal healthcare. By integrating with AI data platforms, we aim to
deliver highly precise and personalized immune healthcare services.”
The company further noted its mid- to long-term goal of advancing technological
capabilities and commercialization to enter the global pet bio market.
Parallel advancement of clinical
and regulatory strategies
NKCL plans to sequentially pursue non-clinical and clinical validation for
companion animals, establish regulatory approval strategies by product
category, and commercialize bio-based materials.
Through this collaboration, the company aims to expand the application scope of
cell therapy technologies and lead a paradigm shift toward bio-centered
innovation within the pet healthcare industry.
Cancer remains the leading cause
of death in companion animals.
The industry expects this partnership to stimulate demand for high-value
anti-cancer treatments within Korea’s 15 million companion animal population
market.
